Dumped baby returned to parents Tennant Creek

NORTHERN Territory police have yet to determine whether charges will be laid against the parents of a baby found abandoned in a laneway.

Police have confirmed a three-month-old boy was found in bushes in a laneway in Tennant Creek, about 500km north of Alice Springs, just before midnight on Monday.

The baby was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital for a medical assessment while police tried to locate his parents.

Early yesterday the baby's 22-year-old mother and 29-year-old father visited the hospital looking for the child.

A man said that he heard the baby boy screaming while out cycling and nearly ran over him. The man gave the baby to a female friend who was standing outside a nightclub in the town and told her to phone the police.

Stephanie Butterworth, 24, said: "The baby had been screaming its head off.
